Die Europäische Kommission ist in ihrer Außendarstellung sehr um den Datenschutz von Iternetnutzern besorgt und die Europäische Kommission findet sehr salbungsvolle Worte, wenn es darum geht, die Meinungsfreiheit im Internet zu verteidigen, z.B. der „EU Representative“ Stavros Lambrinidis:
